Jack Welch, former CEO of General Electric, once said, “An organization’s ability to learn, and translate that learning into action rapidly, is the ultimate competitive advantage.” MemSQL is designed to be as familiar as possible to SQL users, while bringing the advantages of full, linear scale-out to the relational database world. Our new, free training courses are designed to leverage whatever you already know, provide you with the new information you need, and help you to be successful with MemSQL right from day one. First, a word about the design of the training. MemSQL’s self-paced training is designed to be …

MemSQL Tools is our newer approach to helping you configure and manage downloadable MemSQL software. (If you choose MemSQL Helios, we do the administration for you.) Most users are already on MemSQL Tools. In recent months, we’ve introduced a slew of new features that will encourage most remaining MemSQL users to move to Tools from our former solution, MemSQL Ops. In this blog post, I’ll describe the new features, the philosophy behind MemSQL Tools, and why we encourage you to use MemSQL Tools exclusively going forward. MemSQL introduced MemSQL tools and MemSQL Studio the year before last, to replace MemSQL …

MemSQL is steadily improving its high availability (HA)  and disaster recovery (DR) features. The design of primary partitions and their corresponding secondary partitions on leaf nodes provided HA, while the replications configured on a remote cluster support DR. MemSQL 7.0 marked a major milestone with the introduction of fast synchronous replication. This makes it much more practical to use high availability (HA) with MemSQL, as you can easily keep a live copy of your database contents in the cluster. In this release, MemSQL 7.1, we are adding a much-requested feature, fast disaster recovery failback (also known as simply DR failback). …

Apache Ignite Deployment Patterns

The Apache® Ignite™ in-memory computing platform comprises high-performance distributed, multi-tiered storage and computing facilities, plus a comprehensive set of APIs, libraries, and frameworks for consumption and solution delivery (all with a “memory first” paradigm). This rich set of capabilities enables one to configure and deploy Ignite in many diverse system patterns. The platform can be used as a simple cache, an in-memory data grid (IMDG) that offloads an underlying relational database for the acceleration of web applications.

Building containerized software that runs on Kubernetes platforms like Red Hat OpenShift Cloud Platform is the hot trend in software development. Everyone is building containers, but the technology is new enough that best practices and certifications are still being developed. IBM specializes in providing software for enterprises. An example of this software is IBM Cloud […]

You can now validate the hardware and software environment for MemSQL, before you install the software. As you may already know, the MemSQL-Report module within MemSQL Tools allows you to run health checks on your database. The new functionality in MemSQL-Report lets you run environment validation checks – before you install MemSQL. These checks ensure that machines are appropriately configured for the best performance of the database, and the least likelihood of future problems.  MemSQL is a high-performance database; it ingests data rapidly, and supports workloads that require fast transaction processing, low query latency, and high concurrency. (Which includes lots …
